April 1, 2008Bittersweet Empty NestJust got the great news that my son got the summer undergraduate research fellowship he applied for. And about a month ago, my daughter was accepted as a counselor-in-training at a summer sleep-away camp. Excellent news for both of them. And of course, I am thrilled. But, on the other hand, it means our nest will be empty this summer. For the first time in twenty years, my husband and I will be alone for eight-weeks this summer. I know it's a natural part of life, but after so many years devoted to daily parenting, it will be simply odd to not have them here for so long a stretch. I guess it's time to either take up new hobbies, new charities, get more pets, or all of the above. Is your nest empty? What did you do to fill the space and time after the kids left the house?

When my kids flew the nest i became a childminder and a grandmother with in about a year of each other, so my house is still full of kids. But even though my children have left home I sometimes wonder as my daughter spends more time at my house than she does her own LOL. But I would not have it any other way. But I do enjoy the peace and quite once all the children have gone home. Posted by: Pam on April 4, 2008 9:54 AMWell,my nest isn't empty and I don't think it will .We can't get seperated from our kids either single or married. When it comes to travelling ,we very often go together .In case I find myself alone, I'll try to keep myself as busy as possible.First of all,I'll take up a sport that fits my age .Then I'll visit as many nice places as I can ,of course with my wife.It 'll be fantastic to enjoy and romance our life.WE REALLY DESERVE IT.
