Dedicated IP for my Newsletters

by on March 24, 2004

For the past week, I have been working on moving my newsletter lists to a new server. I consolidated them over at NetAtlantic because I was interested in having a dedicated IP address. When you have your own dedicated list server (which I do not), having a dedicated IP is just assumed. I, however, am on a shared server. What I no longer wanted to do was to share an IP address.

Like sharing a needle, a lipstick, or a hairbrush, it is no longer a safe to share an IP address. Why? Because more and more whitelisting and blacklisting is happening at the IP address level, someone’s else’s loose list practices could get me banned; meaning my +80,000 newsletters might not reach their intended destinations.

Now, with my own IP address, I am master and commander of my own fate.
