In a 2002 UNICEF study of public education in 24 nations, the U.S. ranked 18th among 24 nations. Economists estimate that if America raises student skills closer to that of European nations, the U.S. economy would grow by an additional 5% over 30 years resulting in an extra $1.5 trillion in 2037 alone -- more than triple current U.S. spending on K-12 public education.

As globalization continues, it is imperative that we improve the math and science education in our nation's schools. It is important for our economy, and it is important to our security. Imagine the U.S. being energy independent. How will be get there? We need more scientists and a leader that rallies all the country's resources and motivation.
