I thoroughly enjoyed "Water for Elephants" by Sarah Gruen. It is the story of a young man who accidentally joins a traveling circus in 1931. The descriptions of the life of the performers and animals is fascinating. Those were hard times for everyone. At the end, though, there is an O'Henry-like twist that leaves you smiling and renewed with hope. |
