How to Make an eBook Cover

Hello Barbara,
Found your site from Fred Langa. Great site. Very interesting and informative. Please tell me from where did you get your three book cover designs? They are most eye catching and professional.
Regards,
Robert

Thanks, Robert. I designed all my own book covers except "How to Add Games to Your Site" which was designed by Brian Terry of eBookWow.

To create the others, I followed the free tutorial and used the free templates available at Cover Art Guide. This fabulous free tutorial teaches you how to use Compact Draw (a $28 try-before-you-buy download.) I highly recommend it.

On the other hand, many gurus swear that information products with "ugly" book covers do much better. For example, take a look at these covers: Sherpa Store, 101 Public Relations, and Succeeding in Business.

One day I will test my "pretty" How-to-Add-Games cover against an "ugly" one. How will I do the test? I am installing Split Hit to run a split-test run. I will let you know how it turns out.

That coverartguide site you refer to no longer appears to exist. Do you have another site you recommend?

I prefer GIMP just because it's about as powerful as Photoshop, but it's free. (I use it for 3D covers as well as other web graphics like banners, ads, etc.)

I always thought that an ugly cover would hurt your sales more than help it, though.

Hey Barbara, couldn't get to the guide (might be an error with my browser?) Hmmm...

Like the other stuff here though, really informative thanks!

P.S I use eCoverSuiteElite actionscripts for most of my design work. Only bad thing is that it requires photoshop.
Here's the link if anyone's interested...

This information is invaluable for me. I really appreciate you posting. It doesn't matter to me if you receive revenue from you links as it is well deserved when you share information that people can actually use. Thanks!!!
