I'm a Mommy Blogger Too!

I have been sitting on the sidelines admiring what Susan Carraretto* has done with 5 Minutes for Mom and their Ultimate Blog Party 2009, when it occurred to me, "Hey, I'm a mommy blogger too!"

Just because my kids drive cars, vote, can legally sign contracts and drink alcohol, doesn't make me less of a mommy, does it? (Disclaimer: Not both my kids are old enough to drink. E? You reading? That sentence was for dramatic effect. Got it?)

The problem with blogging about teenagers and young adults is several fold. First, they read whatever you post. Second, they really deserve some privacy. Just because I have chosen this rather transparent online life, doesn't mean that they have to be exposed along with me.

When they were younger, they were fair game. Not only did the kids never read it, but the rest of the family probably didn't read it either because back in THOSE days the family wasn't spending that much time online. All that has changed. I mean my kids' grandparents are on Facebook. Things have changed big time.

So, when it comes to blogging, I am reduced to talking about the pets and my husband. And soon enough it's just going to be the pets and my husband here in the house with me anyway.

Getting back to Susan and 5 Minutes for Mom, I am fascinated by the Blog Party concept. How does one hold a virtual party? I remember some virtual parties via Instant Message a long time ago. I never really got the concept.

"Want some crudities? Do you like the dip? I found the recipe by googling 'dip for crudities'!"

So ... I figured the best way to understand something I didn't understand was to jump in with both feet. So here I am! Let the party begin!

Ultimate Blog Party 2009

*Sorry, Janice, didn't mean to leave you out. But I know Susan ... we had quite a humorous introduction over lunch last year. And you and I have never been properly introduced. Although I did meet your mom a few weeks ago.

Hi Barbara! I found your blog via a google search for the definition of "mommy blogger" for a post I'm writing.

Welcome to the party!! You are a mom. You have a blog. Thus you are a mommy blogger!

One of the reasons I enjoy event's like UBP is to meet interesting women I would never meet in my real life. The mommy blogosphere is full of interesting and talented women like yourself.

I'm glad you participated so I could stumble across your blog. :)
