Learn to Play Chess

by on March 9, 2008

Dear Barbara,
Have you ever come across any instructions or booklets that will help young children learn to play the game of CHESS??
Thanks. Leo

Hi Leo,

My mother taught my son to play at about five. She says after the second game, he started winning, and she never won another game against him! He is now in college, but our living room is cluttered (in a good way) with lots of HUGE (four-feet tall) chess trophies. I don’t know why the chess trophies are always so tall.

Anyway, here are some chess books and kits for kids.

I especially like: Kids’ Book of Chess and Chess Set

And I have written about chess a few times:

Learn Chess
Chess Websites

Cheers,
Barbara

Learning chess is not that difficult if you get a right guide even on the web.

Hello,
Could you please advise me when my 5 year old son can learn chess? Are there any clubs for children in WEst London where they can learn this game?
Thank you in anticipation,
Best regards,
Agnes
