Revenue for Growing Site?

by on June 18, 2004

Hi Barbara,
I teach full time as an elementary school teacher in Coffs Harbour Australia. I have a hobby site that I maintain. It is starting to become very popular with Australian students and teachers. Trouble is, as the traffic has increased so has the cost of hosting it. A friend hosts it for me cheap but the price has had to go up. I haven’t got the time to go looking for sponsors or advertisers for the site but I will need to pay for it somehow. I notice that you have google ads on your page. Do you have any problem with unsafe ads appearing? Are the ads worth having financially?
I would appreciate any other advice you can give me about safe affiliate advertising.

Regards,
Charlie

P.S. I have been keeping up with your blog. I think you are brave. Keep up the good work

Dear Charlie,

Google Adsense is easy, profitable, and I have NOT had a problem with inappropriate sites. You will need to apply to the program, but if you meet the criteria, the approval process is very quick.

You will find all the URLs you need and some good AdSense resources in this blog post from last year.

Affiliate advertising is another way to go, but I have found that I need to write a product review for it to be effective. I have rarely been able to make any money from an affiliate program with just a link. Here are some affiliate programs I use:

Commission Junction
Amazon
Reg Now
ClickBank
