		<description>Barbara,
I have to agree with you. I LOVE my rice cooker!! But, unlike the previous poster claims, my rice cooker also acts as a steamer. I can throw in broccoli, carrots, asparagus, even potatos, turn it on and leave it. When the timer beeps, I know that my food has been perfectly steamed without worrying if pans will boil over or run out of water.
Mine came from a friend who lived in Hawaii with a number of Asian and Asian-Americans as well. Her kitchen would not be complete without it and neitherwould mine.

		<description>Barbara,
While I don&#039;t want to take the wind out of your sail, and I can see a person living in a dorm (do they have microwaves in dorms, these days?) using a rice cooker, at home, it is not for me. I had one years ago, and I agree, they are wonderful! But it is, indeed, one more item in the kitchen which does only one thing....there are tooo, too many of those around! I have found I can get the exact same results in my microwave. Just put the usual ratio of rice to water in a microwavable bowl. Cook in high for 15 minutes, let set for 5....voila! Perfect rice every time!
