October 16, 2007Why I Own a Rice CookerMy new rice cooker is so amazing! It makes all kinds of rice perfectly and easily, without any boil overs, ever. But I never had one or even wanted before Matthew came home from his freshman year of college. Why do I own a rice cooker? I own a rice cooker because Matthew goes to a tech school that is world-famous for its science curriculum, and many of his fellow students are Asian and Asian-Americans. Yup .. that's it. "All his friends" had them, and Matthew asked for a rice cooker this summer when he returned home. And then in the fall, he took the rice cooker back to school. After using Matthew's rice cooker all summer, I missed it, so I went and bought myself my very own Red Rival 6-cup Rice Cooker. Isn't it funny ... the small unrelated consequences of larger cultural movements? More Posts Like This One: My Life 2007 Posted by Barbara J. Barbara, Barbara, While I don't want to take the wind out of your sail, and I can see a person living in a dorm (do they have microwaves in dorms, these days?) using a rice cooker, at home, it is not for me. I had one years ago, and I agree, they are wonderful! But it is, indeed, one more item in the kitchen which does only one thing....there are tooo, too many of those around! I have found I can get the exact same results in my microwave. Just put the usual ratio of rice to water in a microwavable bowl. Cook in high for 15 minutes, let set for 5....voila! Perfect rice every time! Posted by: Susan on October 20, 2007 8:13 AM |
