Working at Home

I’ve got a couple of great books sitting on my desk that I’m giving away this week to one lucky winner. I’ve met the authors, and you should be prepared to be blown away. Here’s the deal.

Amy Jo Martin is a social media pioneer who figured out that her passion was teaching people to do hard stuff, just like her Dad taught her to ski the double black diamond trails when she was little. That’s why she has two black diamonds tattooed on her wrist, to remind her of her passion. Amy Jo (or do her friends call her “Amy?”) was a powerhouse speaker at BlogHer ’12, which was how I happened to get on her press list for a signed advance copy to give away. This book is for anyone wanting to take their social media to the next level.

I’m fortunate to count Danielle Elliott Smith as a “friendquaintance” and when she came through San Diego on a book tour with her co-author Aliza Sherman, I made a point of being there to support her. That’s how I happened to get a signed copy of their book. “MOM, Incorporated” is a friendly, easy, step-by-step guide to turning your dream of running a business (while being a Mom) and making it a reality.

So, how do you enter? Simply login in the sweepstakes widget below, and earn extra entries by tweeting about either (or both) of the books. Be sure to use the #hashtags as you see them in the sample posts, so we can see your tweets! That’s it. The giveaway will end in a week. Good luck!

Mommy Bloggers Wanted

by Barbara Feldman July 21, 2009

Do you blog? I am considering adding a handful of mommy (and daddy) bloggers to SurfNetParents.com. Although I haven’t completely fleshed out the plan, I am looking for parents with existing blogs (or blogging experience) that would interested in the exposure that blogging on SurfNetParents would offer. If you’d like to be considered, please contact [...]

Single Tasking

by Barbara Feldman June 22, 2009

Are cluttered to-do lists, multitasking, and unlimited browser tabs taking their toll on your productivity? Some experts are calling single tasking (focusing on one task at a time) “the new multitasking.” If you want to give it a try, NowDoThis offers a new twist on the old fashioned to-do list. Type in a list of [...]

What Would You Do with 3 Extra Hours Every Day?

by Barbara Feldman February 3, 2009

Psst. Come closer. I want to tell you a secret. Can you hear me now? Here it is: Unless you are a computer, multi-tasking isn’t working for you. It’s not improving your performance. It’s not helping you accomplish your goals. It’s not helping you get through the day. In fact, it’s degrading your performance, making [...]

Five a Day

by Barbara Feldman November 19, 2008

Chatting with my business coach today, lamenting for the umpteenth time about how difficult it is for me to deal with all the paper than comes across my desk, she asked me for an action item. And since it seems to help to do a little bit every day, and not have to deal with [...]

Agloco FAQ

by Barbara Feldman December 3, 2006

I got quite a few questions about my promotion of Agloco last week. Apparently I did a terrible job of explaining it, so here’s some FAQs. Q: Isn’t this a scam? A: No. It is founded by people with a history of successful startups, and it was recommended by by two people I trust: David [...]

Make Money from Online Ads

by Barbara Feldman November 28, 2006

As you might know, I make most of my living from the advertising that appears on my websites. Most people, however, may never have enough traffic to their personal sites to make any significant income this way. Today that’s about to change! I just discovered a way to earn money from online advertisers, without having [...]

Email Overload Makes You Stupid

by Barbara Feldman April 25, 2005

Research from King’s College London University has found “the IQ of those who tried to juggle messages and work fell by 10 points — the equivalent to missing a whole night’s sleep and more than double the 4-point fall seen after smoking marijuana.” (from CNN.com E-mails ‘hurt IQ more than pot’, Friday, April 22, 2005) [...]

Password Vaults

by Barbara Feldman February 13, 2004

As more and more sites require registration with a username and password, it becomes increasingly important to manage your passwords. One way is a paper address book. Another is an software password vault. My favorite password saver is Roboform. When evaluating a password program, be sure to consider how you will access your passwords when [...]

Snow Day? Traffic Day!

by Barbara Feldman May 15, 2003

Yesterday was a very bizarre day here in San Diego. In the wee hours of the morning a crane fell over at the intersection of two major freeways, and paralyzed our city for an entire day. Forget terrorism preparedness. What about crane preparedness? My daughter’s school was in chaos. When teachers called in to say [...]
