Just got the great news that my son got the summer undergraduate research fellowship he applied for. And about a month ago, my daughter was accepted as a counselor-in-training at a summer sleep-away camp. Excellent news for both of them.
And of course, I am thrilled. But, on the other hand, it means our nest will be empty this summer. For the first time in twenty years, my husband and I will be alone for eight-weeks this summer. I know it’s a natural part of life, but after so many years devoted to daily parenting, it will be simply odd to not have them here for so long a stretch.
I guess it’s time to either take up new hobbies, new charities, get more pets, or all of the above.
Is your nest empty? What did you do to fill the space and time after the kids left the house?
