A few weeks ago I got a rather long letter from a reader (a work-outside-the-house mom) who
wanted to work at home, and wondered what advice I could provide.
Here’s an excerpt:
“I would welcome any advice or direction you could offer me since, while I don’t know you personally, you appear to be very successful and seem to have it all. To be honest, I don’t want it ALL…I just want the piece that is rightfully mine–the pleasure of raising my children and being a part of their everyday lives. ” Sincerely, Yvette R.
And then the following week, this letter from a stay-at-home mom:
“I am a stay-at-home housewife with quite a bit of time on my hands. I am seeking a job in which I can stay at home and tend to the needs of my family and still contribute to the household income.” Connie M.
I didn’t answer these letters right away, because, quite frankly, I didn’t know what to say. It wasn’t until I got another plea from another mom wanting to stay home that I got on the Net and starting searching for some answers.
I was skeptical of most of what I found. Some companies seemed slimy, and others just plain illegal! I was concerned because there are so many scams out there, and I didn’t want to steer anyone wrong.
The story has a happy ending though, because I finally found Lesley Spencer, the founder and director of HBWM, Inc — which stands for Home Based Working Moms. Their company slogan is “Committed to bringing moms closer to their children.” Pretty cool, right?
Her organization publishes a Mom’s Work-at-Home Kit to help parents turn their passions and hobbies into viable home-based businesses. From soup to nuts, the Work-at-Home Kit has everything needed to select and start a home-based business.
As it turns out, when it comes to recommending Lesley, I’m in good company. Dr. Laura Scheslinger (of radio fame) says this about the kit:
“Mom’s Work-at-Home Kit offers moms an excellent way to select and start the perfect home business for their individual personality and needs. If you are considering working at home, we highly recommend checking out Mom’s Work-at-Home Kit.” Dr. Laura
The Mom’s Work-at-Home Kit comes in two varieties. The first one includes oodles of printed and online material, the second one includes all that PLUS a career assessment session with a professional success coach.
So, if you’ve ever dreamed about starting a business from your kitchen table (or home computer) that will give you the freedom to stay home with your kids, here’s the information you need to get started today:
